Yaohu Town has officially opened a new eco-cultural attraction Dancing with Birds, a 300-million-yuan (Approx. 43 million USD) production as China’s first large-scale open-air immersive bird show of its kind, featuring more than 250 birds. After a successful trial period that began in July 2024, the show officially opened to the public on October 1^st 2025.

Built into the natural landscape of Yaohu Town, the area covers 30,000 square meters along the terrain including a 2,300-seat outdoor auditorium carved into the hillsides. The show features more than 250 birds, representing over 10 species of falcons and hawks. Bird flight, natural sounds, and multimedia tech are used to create an immersive experience.

Narrated by the renowned art director Fan Yue, from the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Dancing with Birds is unlike traditional animal shows. Dancing with Birds follows a ‘free fly’ approach, allowing the birds to move according to their natural instincts. The entire aviary zone is like their living habitat rather than a stage, creating an organic and different visual experience for each performance.

“Bird-First” Venue Built Within Nature

Designed by GOA (Group of Architects), the venue is shaped like a sunken valley carved into the hillsides. The surrounding hills form the backdrop for the performance, while the layout is a safe natural environment, protecting our 250+ actors from noise and other disturbances.

The auditorium and terrace are under the ‘clay’ theme also built with local purple clay and bamboo to reflect the cultural identity of Yixing, famously known as China's "Pottery City" blends into the forest hillside, making the entire open auditorium a natural space for both birds and human interaction.  

Sino-French Collaboration for Ecological Tourism

Dancing with Birds is a collaboration between Yaohu Town and Puy du Fou Asia. The project brings the spirit of Puy du Fou 's world-renowned Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantômes to a new audience in Yaohu Town with their French expertise including falconry training and aviary management to create a healthy environment for bird's well-being as well as preservation, and conservation of species, showing that tourism can coexist with ecological protection.

By merging Puy du Fou’s "know-how" with Yixing’s stunning natural landscape, Dancing with Birds supports sustainable tourism and Yixing’s broader tourism strategy.
